The new Windham NH High School is days away from opening its doors to grades 9-10 of 2009.
Rich Manley principal of the $50+ million high school gave a brief introduction at the meeting of the Granite State South Board of Realtors held in the brand new 500+ seat auditorium. The public open house or students’ “First Night” is scheduled for August 26th.
Each student and teacher gets a personal laptop and has access to Smart Board technology in every class room to bring education to the 21st century in one of New England’s most state of the art high schools. In this high-tech environment team work is enabled by on-line collaboration and contents of the white board can be downloaded to computers.
40 tech-savvy teachers were selected from over 1,000 applicants and bring tremendous knowledge and expertise to this impressive environment. A large library / media center with full data access, bio labs with flex cameras feed information to every student’s computer.
The two stories high vocational shop is richly equipped for hands-on training in robotics, plastics and computer aided design. Several computer labs with large flat screen displays on every pc provide students with an ideal work environment.
Healthy eating habits are encouraged (no fried food) in the spacious dining room with outdoor cafeteria. All utensils and plates are non-plastic and environmentally friendly.
The large gym can host several simultanious basket ball games and will provide ample space for personal cardio fitness and advanced weight training.
The soaring ceilings and large windows of this many-angled architectural delight create a sparkling setting for Windham’s most fortunate student population.
The facilites of the new high school also welcome the public and will serve as the venue for future town and voting events.
